IC:Character name: Lance
Fandom: Pokemon RBY, GSC, FRLG, and HGSS.
Timeline: After being defeated by Gold and Silver in the Dragon cave, while teaming up with his sister Clair.
Age: Early 30s
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Lance has no super powers to speak of himself, but he is a pokemon trainer and trains one of the most powerful of pokemon types, dragons. They have various attacks and battle strategies that he has intimately trained them in for battling in many different conditions and environments. Lance has great compassion and caring for his pokemon, they are his partners in his daily life, and they protect and care for each other.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a389/MooseChangerPat/DragonTeam.pngThis is a chart of his different pokemon, their types, their movesets, their levels, and their held items. His most important pokemon that he could never be without is his Dragonite, his longest standing friend, and companion. Then the list of most important pokemon for him would be as follows, Charizard, Altaria, Gyrados, Salamence, and lastly Garchomp. His altaria isn't all that important to him as he oftentimes is a little embarrassed by it, as it acts almost nothing like any other dragon he's ever had, and is much more like a giant strange bird. However, he still loves the strange thing and feels he should give it a chance to to become one of his closest partners.
These pokemon are more than simply weapons or pets, their intelligence can often be on par with human beings, and Lance uses these pokemon in his every day life. His dragonite flies him nearly everywhere he needs to go, and is often his truest friend. My personalities for his pokemon are all head cannon, as we do not get to see much... or any of their personality in the game. Still, from poke'dex descriptions and appearances, I've made up a small list of personalities for them.
Dragonite can be a bit rambunctious, often trying to make Lance grow more of a sense of humor, but he's incredibly loyal to Lance. His Altaria is a bit of a drama queen and loves any and all attention. It likes to use it's long, super soft, feathery wings to pet people, or 'fluffle' them if you will. His Gyrados has complete and total rage issues and will often growl or be all around grumpy, but still has an absolute obedience towards Lance. His Salamence is very proud of what it is, and will often flaunt its powers and abilities, feeling that it is of the greatest species in the world. It takes the most pride in its wings, and its abilities of flight, having longed to fly all of its life, and after evolving into a Salamence it can.
His Charizard is much like a combination of his Salamence and Gyrados, with having a lot of rage and pride, but he manages to still be level headed, not letting much get to him. It has been one of his companions that he's had the longest, so Lance relies on him for a sense of stability. Lastly, his Garchomp thinks it is the coolest thing in the world, and simply knows he's bad-ass. He thinks he's so bad-ass he doesn't often feel the need to show off as everybody just knows how cool he really is. His garchomp would best be described as that cool guy.
Lance is also a natural leader, having raised pokemon his entire life, and becoming a powerful enough pokemon master to lead the illustrious group of pokemon trainers known as the elite four. These pokemon trainers are the world's greatest that gather together to accept challenges from all trainers who complete the gym leader challenge. He commands quite a bit of authority and knows how to rally people around him to fight for a common cause if the need should arise.
How would they use their abilities?: Lance considers himself a champion of much more than just the pokemon league, but of justice and protecting the innocent as well. Should the need arise, he would use his pokemon to defend other residents of the ship against coming to harm. He has a very strict code of morals, and would likely try to uphold the rules of the ship meant to help maintain order and the well being of those on it. He does not abide be injustice of power either though, and could just as likely find himself inspired to lead a rebellion against someone he felt was a ruthless dictator. In the case of his situation on the SS Thor, he'd likely also use his pokemon to help him accomplish missions to try to rebuild the pokemon world. He would feel that the effort should at least be made for the sake of all humans and pokemon, for them to be able to return to their world.
Appearance: http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f5/HeartGold_SoulSilver_Lance.png/372px-HeartGold_SoulSilver_Lance.pngBackground/Personality: History: When Lance is first introduced in the Red, Blue, and yellow games he is the 4th elite four member of the pokemon league, with his team of dragon pokemon. He tells red that Dragons are one of the hardest pokemon to train, but their power is unsurpassed, and asks if red is prepared for battle. After the battle has passed he is a little surprised that his dragons lost to red, but accepts defeat graciously and congratulates him for defeating the Elite Four, but he still has to face Green who won before him.
In Gold, Silver, Crystal, Heart Gold, and Soul Silver, Lance is first found at the lake of rage concerned over the welfare of the magikarps and the gyrados who were forced to evolve. A Red Gyrados is rampaging in the lake of rage, and in the anime Lance catches it, while in the games Gold defeats it, or catches it. After the battle Lance is impressed with Gold's prowess against the red Gyrados and requests his help in taking down Team Rocket's operation. When Gold makes it to the souvenir shop, Lance is already there waiting for him beside his Dragonite. He'd discovered the strange radio pulse is coming from the shop, and wastes no time searching the place. He shoves aside the store clerk and uncovers stairs hidden beneath the wardrobe, inviting Gold to join him below. After battling his way through the first floor, Lance is concerned that Gold might have got his pokemon badly hurt and heals them with some medicine. Lance splits up with Gold, trying to draw as much attention away from him as possible with his mighty dragon pokemon, while trying to find out where to find the control room. Behind the scenes Lance does battle with Silver and lectures him on not loving or caring enough towards his pokemon and
that is why Silver lost.
Lance can be seen later on interrogating a rocket grunt with his Dragonite, with hyper beam clearly in view, to get information on how to get into the control room. Lance tails behind Gold afterwords to see how he's faring, (without Gold's knowledge) and when Gold finally opens the door to the control room and Team Rocket was about to gang up on Gold, Lance joins in to help. After viewing the control room and finding no means of turning off the transmitter, Lance decides there is no choice other than fainting the Electrodes supplying the electricity. Lance feels bad about it, because it's not the fault of the Electrodes, yet there is no other way. After the battle is won, Lance is rather impressed by Gold, and Lance asks him to continue on with the gym leader challenge, giving him the whirlpool HM. Lance see's Gold's potential and looks forward to seeing him at the top.
Lance is originally from Blackthorn City and a family of Dragon Tamers. His younger relative, Clair runs the 8th gym in Blackthorn City and is in charge of awarding the Rising Badge. Clair is a little bit of a grumpy person, having not been approved by her (and Lance's) Grandfather as being worthy, and while she is running the 8th gym, her older relative Lance is the pokemon League Champion. This of course leads to a little bit of family tension between the two, although more so on Clair's side.
At long last, Gold Reaches Lance at the top of the pokemon League like Lance knew he would. After an impressive battle Gold defeats Lance, and Lance is quite impressed by how much he has grown with his pokemon. Lance admit's his defeat and welcomes in the new pokemon league champion, entering him and his pokemon into the hall of fame. After his defeat, Lance returns to his hometown to do some further training, knowing that his defeat means that he can still find room to improve. He's surprised to meet both Gold and Silver in the Dragon Cave that belongs to his family's clan, where he himself was planning to train. Delighted at the opportunity, Lance offers to team up with his relative Clair, to challenge Silver and Gold to a double battle.
After a fierce battle, Lance is defeated by both Gold
and Silver, who had finally taken Lance's words to heart about caring for his pokemon. (As is evidenced by the fact that his golbat evolved, which is only possible through happiness) Lance congratulates the both of them on their splendid training, and informs Gold that he shall be returning to the pokemon League, ready to accept challengers once again.
Personality: Lance is a bit of an elitist, being the leader of the Elite four in 2 of the games, and the league champion in another 2, but despite this he is still courteous and kind. He's a master of dragon pokemon which are arguably the hardest pokemon in the world to raise, but are superior in power, in the long run. This gives Lance quite a bit of patience, understanding, and perception. He often views many things in life like training a dragon pokemon, being incredibly difficult, and often trying your patience, but ultimately worth it. He is considerate of the feelings of others, and pokemon, and tries his best to help those in need, oftentimes acting where no others will, or can, simply because he feels it is his duty to do so, as a league champion, as a pokemon trainer, and as a human being. He views being a member of the pokemon league, or as a gym leader, as a station that is supposed to help maintain stability and order across the land.
Lance has much less tolerance of criminals and gangs than the average person, especially towards those who would harm pokemon, or other human beings. As such he will often come into conflict with those he considers to be untrustworthy, or evil. He has few qualms about releasing the full might of his dragon pokemon against foes, such as team rocket, in order to stop their insidious plans. However, he still feels bad for the pokemon they involve, as he knows a pokemon will simply obey the orders of its master, nothing more, nothing less. He somewhat views himself as a knight, with a billowing cape of justice, and has a rather strict code of morals. Much of this has to do with his upbringing in a family of dragon trainers that taught him honor and pride. He firmly believes that pokemon should be raised with love and caring, and will scold those who would think otherwise. Pokemon are one of the most important things to him, and when the world of pokemon is threatened, Lance will answer with the might and skill of his Dragon Pokemon.
Lance is first and foremost a dragon pokemon trainer, coming from a long line of dragon pokemon trainers. To be a dragon pokemon trainer requires patience and pride in what you do, and Lance has both of these in abundance. With his pride comes a certain measure of wanting to maintain his image, and so is a little leery of being seen doing anything too ridiculous. While Lance has no qualms about special ordering capes from the department store, he'd certainly draw the line if someone tried to put his dragonite in a pink tu tu. His pride isn't such that it will get in the way of accepting defeat, but it is enough that upon accepting defeat, he will try, try again. He knows he can always be better, and he knows that there will always be those who aren't as good as he is. He strives to let everyone come to know love and happiness, if he believes they can reach it. An example of this is when he tells Silver about how he is mistreating his pokemon, and that he will never have a chance of defeating Lance, if he doesn't come to love them.
Lance has no tolerance for those who would prevent others from finding their own love and happiness, and such an example of this is team rocket. This ruthless gang of villains steal people's pokemon, and thus steal away happiness from others which is wrong. Lance is especially harsh to those who go against his code of morals, and while he feels everyone can be redeemed, he has no qualms about using great force. He was not above blasting a member of team rocket with his dragonite showing that he was not above violence to get his point across. Sometimes when dealing with despicable people force is the only option, and while Lance will often try to find an alternative peaceful method, he is also willing to unleash the rage of his dragons when he feels it is right.
He views the world and life as a wonderful thing to be cherished, and he wants others to come to cherish it as he has. He travels the world to try to investigate things like upcoming trainers that may one day come to be as good as he is. He always looks forward to seeing if there are those who may outmatch him, because through them he can learn to become closer to perfecting his techniques. Being from a long line of rich dragon trainers, he was brought up to be rather proper and classy, and tries to be so even during the worst of times. He has a fondness for his own personal style which involves dragons, capes, and a certain regal air. He enjoys giving the red carpet treatment to those who have proven themselves worthy enough to face him, and delights in being over the top at times.

[The video feed clicks on to reveal someone with burning red hair and a flowing cape riding A dragonite. The video feed seems to be coming from backwards on top of the Dragon's head as the man addresses Goldenrod City while in flight.]
Good day citizens of Goldenrod City. It has come to my attention that a nefarious gang of criminals has infiltrated and taken over much of the city. I would ask that all of you please remain calm, and to stay indoors for the time being. I do not want anyone to get hurt, and I'm afraid these criminals may try to steal people's pokemon if they try to intervene. Until the authorities have arrived, I will do my best to stop whatever it is they're planning. I am Lance of the Elite Four, and I promise you that whatever it is that is happening here, I will put a stop to it.
[He fumbles with the controls of the video, and thinking he'd turned it off, he spoke to his Dragonite who was growling up at him.]
You're right Dragonite, I should have been more thorough with them at the lake of rage. If their plans there were any indication of what they might be planning to do with the Goldenrod Radio tower, I shudder to think of the possibilities... But we won't let that happen will we?
[Just as sky scrapers can be seen in the backround as Lance is flying, he reigns in his Dragonite, apparently taking in a scene on the streets below him.]
Well... I'll be damned... my faith in Gold paid off after all. To think he defeated the team rocket executives without any help after all. Haha! Dragonite, I think he may actually be ready for us soon, what do you think? Heh... alright Dragonite, let's go back to the pokemon League. I think they've got things under control here after all... and I wouldn't want to be absent for when Gold manages to challenge the elite four, right?
[Lance picks up his video transmitter, pocketing it, and ending the video feed.]
3rd person sample:"You're still doing it wrong altaria." Lance said sternly, trying to be patient with the fluffy little dragon pokemon. They had been at this for almost a week now, and Altaria was still having troubles getting it right. It wasn't really any fault of Altaria, as it was more bird than dragon, so the concept of dragon moves could sometimes be lost on it. He was trying his best to teach it the impressive dragon claw attack, where a dragon pokemon would focus all the wrath of a mighty dragon into its claws, tearing at its foes. His altaria was still getting it wrong though, and he was wondering if he was at fault for viewing it more as a dragon than as a bird, or as a bird more than a dragon.
"Listen carefully Altaria..." He sighed trying to teach his altaria of what it means to be a dragon was like pulling teeth. When he had lost to Gold, he thought that perhaps he should try a slightly different approach with his dragon training. What he had gone with was training a swablu into an altaria, a decision he had thought he might regret. He did in some respects, but he had come to become rather fond of the strange creature and couldn't help but want it to realize its full potential as a dragon. "Dragons are mythical pokemon Altaria, capable of feats that almost no other pokemon are capable of. A dragon mixes grace and strength to become the most elite of the elite."
His altaria seemed to be nodding in understanding, as it was a rather intelligent pokemon. Right as Lance thought he was making some progress, it spread its fluffy wings out, and wrapped them around him, chirping happily. "Stop that Altaria." That was nearly the 5th time today, and he had indulged him once or twice in a hug, as the wings were so incredibly soft, but they both needed to focus. He needed to be strict in order for Altaria to learn, but he still needed to be patient with him, and not cause him to lose hope. "Listen... this attack is one of the most important attacks of a dragon pokemon. In order to do this you need to harness the power of a dragon into your claws, you need the rage and might of a dragon behind you." Altaria seemed disappointed that Lance wouldn't cuddle up with him, but he seemed to understand the principal as it chirped again.
"Good. Now, let's try it again alright?" He motioned with his hands, demonstrating what he meant. Altaria didn't really have claws so to speak, mostly just talons, but those could become deadly weapons in the hands of a dragon master. Its body glowed with energy and it screeched out, ripping the air with its talons, an aura of power surrounding it. Lance pumped his hand into the air triumphantly giving his Altaria a beaming grin and a pat on the back. "Haha! See? I told you, you could do it! Excellant work Altaria! In just a few more months you may be able to face the pokemon league challengers." There was still a long way to go, but with great care he could see Altaria becoming a true dragon pokemon of legend.
